Yoga came into my life about 10 years ago. As a competitive swimmer most of my life, I knew the importance of physical activity in regulating physical and emotional stress, but after I went to my first yoga class with the intent to just get stronger and stretch, I learned that fitness could be about so much more. Yoga allowed me to experience my body and spirit with a depth that was previously unknown. I found Savasana, in particular, to be a stillness I never even knew I craved- a time for me to connect with myself and a higher power. Yoga is a beautiful way to heal mind, body, and spirit. It was my academic life, however, that made me realize the importance of passing on the tools of health to the community. In 2012 I graduated with my Masters in public health in New Orleans, focusing on community health and nutrition. Since then I have worked for community non-profits developing nutrition education and food access both in New Orleans and more recently, here in Austin. Through my education and work in community health I have developed a passion for bringing holistic health to the people in my life, both personally and professionally. I’m so happy to be part of the Black Swan community and I can’t wait to learn and grow with each of you through this channel! Hope to see you on your mat!
“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind, and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.” - B. K. S. Iyengar
