Camel Pose, Ushtrasana, is a great pose to open your upper body. You will feel the amazing opening to your chest, throat and also your shoulders. It is important to keep your lower body strong and engaged in order to safely open your upper body. Your quadriceps and your core muscles such as rectus abdominis are active and strong while you are in this pose in order to push your hips forward constantly. This will create a nice and long arch from your knees to your head. Your iliopsoas muscles, pectorialis muscles, and rotator cuff will be stretched, as you strengthen your gluteus muscles, hamstrings, your upper back muscles (rhomboids and latissimus dorsi). Take a step by step with me to slowly enter this pose to protect your back.
