Join me as we break down Malasana, or "Garland Pose". This delightful pose is wonderful to get a deep passive stretch of your inner groin, glutes, ankles, and wrists, while simultaneously strengthening glutes, back torso, shoulders and tones your belly. Be cautious if you have any lower back or knee injuries. An alternate pose if you are having difficulty coming down into a full squat is to place a rolled blanket under your heels, and/or coming down only half way to the ground, hips parallel to your knees.Garland Pose named after the garland or Mala beads, also known as "prayer" beads, are often used to assist in meditation. Likewise, hip-opening poses like Malasana are used to prepare the body for meditation.
A great preparation for crow pose, this pose is also euphemistically known as 'elimination pose' for its wonderful ability to aid the function of the colon, and assist elimination!
